It is said that she lost hope in life due to the verbal and physical abuse from the New York man she met in November and married at the beginning of the year.
After her marriage, during a difficult period, Kim Sae-ron tried to lean on her former boyfriend by staying in touch with him. However, upon discovering this, the New York man took away her phone, monitored her, and constantly verbally abused her. Although she had broken up with her former boyfriend when she started seeing the New York man, it seems that she reached out to him again due to the hardships she faced.
Kim reportedly said, “I started seeing this person in November. At first, he didn’t express much, and I was always going through difficult days. I felt so lonely, realizing that I had no one to rely on, so I strayed, and that’s the truth. I needed someone who would always listen to me and solve my problems. But that was only temporary. After that, he started threatening to leak our KakaoTalk messages and photos, hacked my Instagram to post things, hit me, cursed at me—I was terrified. That’s why I couldn’t break up with him, and I was afraid this would hurt you.”
During this ordeal, Kim Sae-ron went through severe psychological distress and attempted self-harm multiple times.
Her former boyfriend, Mr. K, provided testimony and submitted a fact-confirmation statement with his name, resident registration number, and fingerprint to ensure the credibility of his account.
According to K, Kim Sae-ron suffered the most due to her family’s indifference and despaired over her situation.
On November 1, 2024, she severed a wrist ligament due to self-harm and had to undergo emergency surgery, but none of her family members showed up despite being notified.
K stayed by her side in the hospital until she was discharged, while the hospital expenses were covered by a representative from her then-agency.
K stated, “Right after Sae-ron was discharged, I took her home, but her biological mother was having a meal with an acquaintance as if nothing had happened. She showed no surprise or sympathy for her daughter’s pain.” He added, “Because of her family’s attitude, Sae-ron always wanted to escape somewhere.”
Perhaps the reason her biological mother and father aren’t stepping forward is that Sae-ron actually wanted to escape from them while she was alive.”
He further stated, “How could her own family not know that she got married? I can understand why. The fact that none of them knew about her marriage to the New York man is proof of how little communication they had with her.
K also disclosed a voice recording of a conversation between Kim Sae-ron and an acquaintance, where she said, “The ligament and tendons in my arm are completely torn. It’s serious, so I need surgery, but it’s not covered by insurance, so I need about 5 million won.”
Even in such an urgent and critical situation, Kim Sae-ron chose to rely on an acquaintance rather than her own family, shedding light on the circumstances she faced at the time.
